A Flash Of History

Thor Motor Coach® took its first steps towards the juggernaut it is today when founders Wade F. B. Thompson and Peter B. Orthwein acquired Airstream®. Two years later, they also purchased General Coach, a Canadian manufacturer of travel trailers and fifth wheels, and they began their legacy of expansion and acquisition in earnest. They purchased ElDorado Bus in 1988 and Heartland® RV Company in 2010, their largest acquisition to date. 

The parent company, Thor Industries, was born by the combinations of these manufacturers and brands, but Thor Motor Coach came along in 2010 as a merger between Damon Motor Coach and Four Winds International. Thor Motor Coach manufactures Class A and Class C RVs exclusively, and despite only being ten years old, they produce nearly a fourth of all motorhomes sold annually and continue to grow to this day.

Models

Though Thor Motor Coach® only builds Class A and Class C motorhomes, they pack a lot of variety into those two models. They sell both gas- and diesel-powered models, and Class A models of either fuel have a wide assortment of layouts, amenities, and living spaces. These are particularly popular with anyone who uses a motorhome full-time, either for travel or as their primary living arrangement.

There’s also a large range of Class C RVs, from what are called Super Cs - a scaled-up Class C - to classic sizes and makeups, as well as specialty rigs like the RUV. An RUV is smaller than the average Class C, making it more maneuverable and easier to drive, but without sacrificing the comfort of a spacious interior. These models can still comfortably sleep between three and five people! Thor Motor Coach even produces toy haulers, for those who want to bring their own bike or ATV to explore nature with.
